Comprehensive Dilated Eye Exams
Comprehensive eye examinations are extremely important. You may think your eyes are healthy, but many diseases can be detected during an eye exam, including diabetes, macular degeneration and glaucoma, and some of them have no early warning signs.
A comprehensive eye exam requires that your pupils be dilated, enabling your eye doctor to view the inside of your eye. Drops placed in each eye widen the pupil, allowing more light to enter the eye the same way opening a door allows light to enter a dark room.
Once dilated, we examine each eye with a special magnifying lens that provides a clear view of important tissues at the back of the eye, including the retina, the macula, and the optic nerve.
Dilation may temporarily cause blurry vision and light-sensitivity; therefore, we ask that you bring a friend or family member to drive you home after your examination.
