Vision exams

Family Eye Doctors in Fort MyersWe definitely offer comprehensive vision exams for all ages. Many vision issues can be spotted at an early age with such an eye exam, and many diseases can be spotted early as well, particularly in our patients over age 60 who have increased risk of conditions like cataracts.

Pediatric eye exams are very important. Did you know that 80 percent of learning is visual, so if your child cannot see clearly, learning might be affected.

Patients over age 40 may be affected by presbyopia and as such may have difficulty reading or performing near-vision tasks. As a person ages, the eye lens becomes less flexible so it is harder for a person to focus on near objects.

We can effectively treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, which is very common these days and easily corrected with specialized contact lenses.

We are seeing an increasing number of patients with digital eye strain. As digital devices become more of a part of our daily lives, a condition called computer vision syndrome (CVS) is taking shape. CVS is a result of extended exposure to any digital screen – televisions, computer screens, phones and tablets. All screens emit a blue light radiation that is difficult on the eyes.

CVS symptoms include eye strain, headache, blurred vision, dry eye, red or irritated eyes and light sensitivity. Over time, CVS impacts your ability to properly focus your eyes on the screen. Most adults who spend six or more hours per day have some symptoms, but we have noticed CVS in patients who are on digital devices less than two hours per day.

Eye diseases

We provide thorough eye care for a range of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye and diabetic retinopathy. In particular, dry eye syndrome is one that is very common. We see this in many of our patients. The eyes simply are not producing sufficient tears to properly lubricate the surface of the eye.

We diagnose, treat and manage all ocular diseases. Our board-certified doctors are also fellowship trained in specific eye diseases, conditions and surgeries. We can also treat cases of eye emergencies, such as conjunctivitis (pink eye) infections, sports injuries and even foreign body removal.
