Dr. Burt was born in South Africa and lived there until she was 9 years old. She then moved to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where she lived for eight years and learned the Portuguese language. Dr. Burt attended undergraduate school at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1999. She then moved to Florida to pursue her optometry degree at Nova Southeastern University. Having graduated with Honors in 2005, she then relocated to Fort Myers to start her career. After working in private practice for three years, Dr. Burt is now happy to join the Elmquist Eye Group.

Dr. Burt and her husband, Tom, are newlyweds and enjoy boating together. Her other non-medical interests include running, traveling and cooking.
